Birth of a New J A Cathartic Memoir - Winner of the 2015 International Latino Book Awards. The head and heart are the most demanding organs. Rid yourself of toxins. Learn to breathe. Julie's story begins at her own birth, buttocks first - was she trying to make a U-turn back into the womb to learn those "three life lessons"?

Author Julie Guardado takes you into a 6 year period of costly mistakes, toxic relationships and the devastating realities of life in, Birth Of a New J A Cathartic Memoir. But basic human science lessons provide a way for her to make some sense of her experiences. From the inability to "wow" a man, and lending another man money, to artificial insemination, her story is told with raw emotion, painfully honest portrayals that show her in a less-than-flattering light, and humor, despite the chaos.

An engaging memoir with an innovative approach, Birth Of a New J will take you you on a roller coaster, then uplift you with its story of birth and rebirth.

Birth of a New J A Cathartic Memoir eBook Julie Guardado

In life everyone makes mistakes. Most of us like to bury them deep within ourselves. We pretend they didn't happen, because maybe just maybe if we pretend that it didn't happen then no one could ever find out the truth. The ugly truth. What would your friends think? Your family? Would we be condemned to wearing a bright scarlet letter for all to see? However, very rarely do people stop to think, that every decision we have made, every mistake, every triumph made us into the person we are today. So what if stop being ashamed and just live up to them. This is what the author Julie Guardado did in her book. She owned her mistakes and wrote a book for all to see. She used her mistakes as lessons and shared them with the world, so maybe others could learn and not go down the same path.

Birth of a New J takes you into the author's life. She holds your hand as she plunges you head first or more appropriately for this author (butt first) into her relationships. There are many times you are laughing with her, screaming at her (why oh why are you doing this to yourself?) or sympathizing with her through her heartbreaks and losses. However, in the end you find yourself relating one way or another, whether it be with relationships or societal pressures. You question yourself, your motives for doing things and even stop to think, can I like the author just rid myself of all the toxins?

A book of science, mistakes and what it takes to be a better person. A book that I found myself unable to put down and where I learned what it truly can take to just breathe.

Birth of a New J A Cathartic Memoir eBook Julie Guardado Reviews

From the first sentence alone ("I was born buttocks first..."), it was a must read. I always read the first sentence of a book to check if it's something I would want to continue reading. This book's first sentence and the many that followed after, did not disappoint. It would be easy to compare this to 'Eat, Pray, Love', since both authors go through strong personal transformations from their personal experiences. For me, though, "Eat, Pray" was more like an Oprah episode that focused on new beginnings (helpful but only touched the surface), whereas "Birth" was more like an intense honesty session with Iyanla Vanzant. Same network people - just very different intensities. And that intensity makes the book. Although it flowed smoothly, some sections were defintiely hard to read because you are rooting for her. All in all - a definite read.
How do you put into words something that speaks directly to your soul and expresses your thoughts better than you? Easy, Birth of a New J. It's not about identifying with each specific experience or relationship Julie had, it's about identifying with the human experience that she so easily and openly expresses. Its about allowing her writing and her purge to open you up and let go.

You'll ask yourself some profound questions. You'll laugh, cry, identify and quite possibly yell but in the end feel nothing but love and hope for a better you.

Read this book, don't be afraid to get to know a piece of Julie and in the end a piece of you.
First off I'd like to say, I have never written a review, honestly I just dont take the time...BUT I did this time as this book was amazing. The emotions I felt both physically and mentally through the authors descriptive writting kept me turning the pages so fast I finished it in a day and a half. Her struggles both emotionally and physically were deep, raw and truthful. The author shared her story about negative, toxic relationships, which can destroy a person straight down to the core literally, BUT also shared how one can learn from all the mistakes and regrets and be reborn into a new person.
This book really got to me. I feel like I Know Julie Guardado; and of course I do, as will anybody who takes the time to read her story. It's not that Julie's life is that different or unusual--it's that it is NOT that different from the life of millions of America woman living their lives and making choices, good and bad. What is so refreshing and unusual about this book is Julie's complete and unflinching candor about those choices. Everyone makes choices. Everyone makes unproductive bad choices sometimes. Julie is an amazing woman with the gift if insight and when most people would try to forget unpleasant things, Julie rips the scabs off and takes a long hard look at how she let toxic people into her life. Julie, you are an amazing spirit. I will never forget you or your courage in writing your story and being unashamed of who you are. You deserve everything you ever wanted and to be at peace with what you deserve, but have been denied. You deserve a five star rating and to be a best selling author. Thank you for sharing the painful parts of your life. So many things happen in a lifetime that are so personal and painful, that most people avoid thinking about them. Julie examines them and shares them, in a heart filled, poignant truthful soul searching journey. You can't help but admire and love her, because of her flaws, not in spite of them.
